Dundas Museum and Archives Receives Donation from Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network
The Dundas Museum and Archives is pleased to announce a significant donation from the Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network (GREEN) including a vast array of fossils, teaching tools, and more than $11,750 in financial support. After the GREEN Board of Directors decided to close the organization’s operations at the Dundas Valley Trail Centre in 2017, they looked to the Dundas Museum as a possible successor for their escarpment education resources.
“I think the Museum is a logical place to put our resources. We had always wanted a physical location, and you can’t get much closer to the Escarpment than where the Museum is. Both organizations focus on educating children, and we’re confident our resources will be put to good use”.
– Ken Hall, GREEN Founder.
Since being approached by GREEN, staff at the Dundas Museum and Archives have been hard at work archiving the organization’s website, giantsrib.ca, which holds a wealth of information about the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve, as well as incorporating some of the organization’s most impressive fossils, such as a Eurypterus remipes (Giant Sea Scorpion), into the Museum’s existing displays.

“We are grateful to the Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network for placing their trust in us to continue their efforts in natural history education. The Museum sits at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment and within the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and will be a great place to explore the natural world.”
– Kevin Puddister, DMA Curator and General Manager
With the recent financial donation, presented on March 7, 2024, by GREEN Founder Ken Hall and Board President Jennifer McPherson, the Dundas Museum hopes to revitalize and reimagine its first gallery to have a greater emphasis on the area’s natural history. The Giant’s Rib donations will also be used as the basis for future escarpment education programming for local students.
