Join us at the Dundas Museum and Archives on Thursday, February 15th, at 7pm for a Black History Month lecture!
Jill Newmark, author of Without Concealment, Without Compromise: The Courageous Lives of Black Civil War Surgeons (2023), will be lecturing virtually on Black Civil War Surgeons, with a focus on Dr. Anderson Ruffin Abbott, the first Canadian-born Black doctor who lived and practiced for a time in Dundas (1881-1889) following his service to the Union Army in the American Civil War.
She will be joined in person at the Museum by Catherine Slaney, a descendant of Dr. Abbott, and author of Family Secrets: Crossing the Colour Line (2003).
