A/V SYSTEM

The Pirie House has been outfitted with a versatile audio/media system, including various device hook-ups, a projector and a drop-down screen, a microphone and stand, and adjustable volume controls.

THE SPACE

The 1873 Pirie House wing of the Museum includes the Education Centre, Dining Room, and Servery.

During normal conditions, the space is fully accessible and can host 90 people comfortably for a standing reception or up to 50 seated at tables.

2 individual washrooms are located conveniently just outside the rental space. However, they may be shared with other guests during the Museum’s open hours.

The outdoor courtyard and green space between the Albert St. entrance and the Doctor’s Office is also available, with again some limitations during open hours so guests can continue to access the Museum comfortably.

Small servery facilities are available, with counter space, a sink, a fridge (but no freezer), and a microwave. Attached to the Education Centre is the Dining Room, often used as the buffet or dessert room, but has also been used as a photo booth for events or as hair/makeup for photoshoots.

ALCOHOL & INSURANCE

INSURANCE: Event insurance is required for all events – we’ve partnered with Duuo to offer our rentals a discount, along with a quick and easy online application process.

ALCOHOL: Wine or beer are permitted with a Special Occasions Permit obtained from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Any alcohol consumption must also be reported to your event insurance provider. Click here to learn more.

HISTORY

The Pirie House is named for its previous owner, Della (Hughes) Pirie, a member of a prominent Dundas family who was involved in the burgeoning Dundas Historical Society and then in the Museum, taking an active role on the Executive after the sudden death of founder H. Graham Bertram. Her generous donation of the land adjacent to her home allowed the town of Dundas to have its purpose-built Museum, which opened in 1956.

In 1973 Mrs. Pirie had her property sub-divided once again, and the garden portion was gifted to the Museum for the Doctor’s Office, which was being relocated from King St. West.

After Mrs. Pirie died in 1975, the Museum purchased her home in anticipation of further growth, which was joined to the existing Museum with a central Atrium in 2013. This portion is where the Education Centre, Dining Room, and Servery now reside, as well as our reception desk & curator’s office.
