HOME/GROUND: The Art of Catherine Gibbon (1949-2021)

Now on display in the Pirie House of the Dundas Museum and Archives is Home/Ground: The Art of Catherine Gibbon (1949-2021), which features a selection of pieces from the late artist. Catherine Gibbon worked out of her studio at the top of the Niagara Escarpment in Greensville but also travelled to capture a variety of scenery in chalk pastels and oils. Gibbon was a founding member of the Carnegie Gallery in Dundas, and started the plein air painting group, the Monday Painters.

Our current Community Curator exhibition features reconstructed Iroquoian weapons and wooden armour made by Malcolm Kahyonhakonh Powless-Lynes, whose research into the precolonial material culture of the eastern woodlands pushes back against the common conceptions of Indigenous warfare.
