One of the best ways to see the town of Dundas and appreciate its history is by strolling the streets. To help you get the most out of your walks, the Museum is pleased to present an assortment of walking tours. Whether you choose to stroll past the stately homes in the Cross Melville Heritage District, walk in the footsteps of the Bertram family, or imagine industrial Dundas as it once was, these tours will inform and entertain. 


37 James Street

Black History in Dundas

Duration: Approx. 40 minutes

Created in celebration of Black History Month 2022, this walking tour is a valuable resource to learn about significant sites and individuals from Dundas’ black history.

Terrain: Sidewalks, paved walkways, and one short gravel trail. The route involves a gradual incline and declines through Grove Cemetery. Approximately 3.2km.

Into The Woods

Duration: 60-90+ minutes

Take a walk on the wild side with this walking tour that takes you around the industrial sections that are built close to green spaces. Visit the locations where the businesses once occupied, and some still remain today.

Please stay on the trail and use caution when walking close to the train tracks. Never cross the tracks – it is against the law, and you may be fined for trespassing. Caution: Until December 2022, this tour is impacted by the construction on Highway 8 between Bond Street North and Woodley’s Lane. At this time, there is no access from point #1 to point #2. You have two options:

  1. Begin the tour as described, visit point #1, then backtrack to Sydenham Street, proceeding down Park Street to point #2
  2. Begin the tour at point #2.

This walking tour comes in 3 different walk lengths for beginners to the more seasoned hiker. Complete with a glossary of terms, this tour examines architecture in Dundas’ past. As the industrial revolution began to fade, Melville and Cross streets expanded rapidly to accommodate new growth. During these tours, you will sample the different types of houses and facilities that were made in Dundas during this time of change.
